Suva!

Howdy-ho fam!!

We made it down from Namosi Highlands and arrived in Suva- the capitol of Fiji! We met back up with our partners at Travel Well and settled into our hotel rooms – and for the girls, our apartment! The next day we went to a couple of NGOs, Empower Pacific and The Women’s Crisis Center (Empower Pacific is a mental health resource and counseling service.) We then got a tour of the local radio station where John got to talk on the radio for a bit. We had a New Year’s eve themed dinner and Kat and Rain made us pesto pasta and crepes for dessert which was so delish.

The next day we went to a local produce market then took public transport (public bus was lit – they played bumping tunes!) to University of the South Pacific and took a tour of the school. We then went to Vili’s (our partner from Travel Well) mom’s house for lunch! She made us a great big Fijian lunch and we listened to Vili and his mom tell stories. After lunch we headed to natural swimming holes in the forest which were so beautiful! We swam and took in the views then went back to our hotel for the day.

The following day we woke up and headed to the Fiji Museum and learned all about Fijian history. To continue our history lesson we went to the Fijian National Archives! We then settled back into our hotel and got word that there was a John Wick Part 4 showing at the movie theater down the street so we all walked down to the theater and tuned into a whopping 2 1/2 hours of Keanu Reeves fight choreography. We had a lot of mixed opinions about the film.

Next day was planned by yours truly- Anna and James. It was a very chill but productive day for us piggies. We slept in and had a late breakfast then went to the coffee shop down the street to discuss our Student Planned Module ideas and Capstone Passion Projects. Later that day we went out for salsa lessons and salsa’d the night away!!

Today we packed our things and said our goodbyes to Suva. We hopped on a ferry to Beqa which is where we will be for the next five days! Thank you for tuning into this week’s blog. Catch you later!!
